This is one of those things where I feel it's people who aren't able to articulate the vague sense that bothers them and are crowd sourcing reasons to oppose them.

id say the hazard is yet another tech bubble detached from reality throwing the dice on everyone's future. AI is amazing, but it isn't profitable yet, and might never be given what people expect of it (and are being led to believe)

I think there's some glaring problems with it, like crypto or the .com bubble, but they're hard to put your finger on, especially if you're not technical.

You give people too much credit, I think. Most people had no idea that data centers existed up until a few months ago. I mean, they had an idea that giant rooms filled with bleepy-blooopy things existed, but that's the extent of it. It's much like most people had no idea who Kony was in 2011, but in 2012 they were all experts in African war crimes and #HashTag special warfare operations. It doesn't help that there are valid complaints about some data centers and the shady dealings, but it's a case-by-case basis. That Kony dude was a bit of a dick too. There is also the general fear of AI and the impact which is also valid, but  the focus on the data centers themselves is a bit misplaced. Particuarly when they lump all data centers into it.

I personally blame the Chicoms for it all. Why? Because I already blamed Trump for me nearly shitting my pants earlier today on my way home.
