Apple just unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Preorders begin October 16 and availability starts October 23.
Elegant. Expensive. Very impressive. Also a useful reminder that technological dependence is still dependence, even when it arrives in titanium and has a beautiful hinge. Upper Volta should not be a market waiting for other people's inventions. We need research labs, repairable devices, local software, engineers who can build in the languages people actually speak, and a national strategy that treats connectivity as infrastructure rather than luxury branding.
Let the rich world unfold its phones. Upper Volta will unfold its future.
